Rothenberg update via Artworks of Cincinnati...
"Color Brings Peace"
In partnership with Cincinnati Public Schools, Rush Philanthropic Foundation, and Bounty2120 Vine Street
Lead Artists: Matthew Dayler and Danny Babcock, Higher Level Art
2 Apprentice Artists
ArtWorks and Higher Level Art transformed the exterior of a modular classroom of Rothenberg Preparatory Elementary School. The team led a school-wide assembly to get input from students, including favorite colors, style, and words starting with the prefix “re”. The result is a colorful, inspirational wraparound mural that enlivens the Over-the-Rhine community.

Stop and smell the Flowers

Ruth and Family from Rosebud Flower Shop in Erie, PA was kind enough to allow me to assist in the updating of their storefront. The name and roses are contour cut from a rigid exterior grade substrate. "Flower shop" and the gray shadows are painted directly to the wall. We gave the white background a fresh coat, and do expect to add more soon...

"Hear it on the Radio, See it on the TV Show!"

We've once again, third annual, completed a large mural project for the Know Theater of Cincinnati, while they hosted another successful "Fringe Festival"
This years wall was sponsored by Ironlak paint, and done cooperatively between Higher Level Art and Momentum Art Technologies.
In years past we've always taken our audience into consideration.
2008, we catered to the theater itself with a whimsical stage scene painted in a scenic painting fashion.
2009, we appreciated the wall was most often viewed, directly across the street, from the main offices of the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
2010, We considered it a performance install for the Fine Arts Fund which neighbors the location, as well as appealing to our major sponsor, Ironlak.
The b&w figures were completed by Matthew Dayler in a manner consistent with his street inspired gallery installations, where he typically applies his figures to gallery walls using sumi ink washes integrated with aerosol work. The wall was then split between graffiti artists, C3PO and Gamble to do what they do best, tech'd out graff from side to side. This wall was a great time from beginning to end and we can only hope to have similar opportunities in the future. We had a great time painting during the festival and we're very pleased by the overwhelming positive feedback from local business owners and citizens of the downtown neighborhoods.
We would definitely like to thank Eric Vosmeier, Alexandra Kesman, and Doug Borntrager at the Know for all their help making it happen.
Below is a photo of the finished product, but stay tuned for the video, editing now, coming soon...

Mural Project at Rothenberg Elementary
The Higher Level Art crew was asked by Artworks of Cincinnati to design and execute a mural project at Rothenberg Elementary School in the "Over The Rhine" neighborhood. We quickly conceptualized a theme of inspiration for the students and the community. The only directive was, "Make sure it's Bright!" We accommodated as much as possible.
The text chosen for the building came from a brainstorm session Matthew Dayler did with students. All the students we're asked to write down words beginning with "Re-". Afterward we filtered the suggestions to, "Respect, Renew, Reinvent, Revitalize, Responsibility". They were very excited to play a part in the design, especially when being asked "What's your favorite color!", hence the ridiculous pallet wrapping the building. We've been receiving alot of wonderful comments from students and staff as they witness the daily progress and look forward to working with ArtWorks of Cincinnati on other projects in the future.
There is some nice process photos by Scott Beseler at Take The Day.com

JR Tubbs Tattoo Shop Signage
I had the pleasure of creating some new signs and window installations Kernal Tubbs in northern Ohio last week. The sign itself is dramatically textured and the panels in the window are painted in such a fashion to appear as oversize antique "flash". Thanks, to all the guys at the shop in Ashtabula, I had fun doing these pieces and know they're in good hands.

AVS "Killing The Game" - 2009
This was a great show!
We had a ton of great artists from Louisville to Chicago.
It was a nice mix of styles, but everyone involved was similar enough so that no one's work was out of place.
Thanks to everybody who participated in this one, as well as the AVS Gallery for putting this show on back in '09...
